50 Years and Still Getting it Done!

August 03, 2015
MacDonald’s 1961 Series 2 Land Rover
CALGARY, ALBERTA CANADA – Braden winch owner Peter MacDonald answers the question, “How long can a Braden winch last?” MacDonald’s 1961 Series 2 Land Rover is equipped with a 1962 Braden LU2 10F winch… and it’s still going strong!

According to MacDonald, 50 plus years hasn’t slowed the LU2 down. “I hauled a Dodge out of the mud last weekend using five other vehicles to anchor me,” says MacDonald,”…it is very impressive.”

The LU2 was originally designed as a PTO winch for pick-up trucks. These winches were fitted to Ford, Chevrolet, Jeep and other name brand trucks from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s. MacDonald’s 2,900 lb. Land Rover Series 2 is believed to be a surplus vehicle used as part of the British Army Unit Suffield in Alberta.
